Grass Monkey

Grass Monkey

The Grass Monkey Band, started in Roanoke, VA in 2007, has buffed up its previously precocious punk-grass act into electric rock and roll that stays true to its Appalachian roots with three part vocal harmonies and just the right touch of twang. With a storied-string-band-past including a few former members, Grass Monkey Band gained local popularity in Roanoke and released The Bazaar Sessions in 2011, before trading in the fiddle and acoustic guitar for soulful Telecaster solos and ferocious harmonica riffs.  Lately, the Monkey has been on the road traveling through Texas, Tennessee, West Virginia, and Virginia playing storytelling songs with an array of influences. From doors-off driving rock featured in songs like “Slight Case of Murder,” “Big Rowdy,” and “Hotsy Totsy Woman,” to the mambo-meets-disco in “Lucy,” to the rockabilly swing of “Sweet Lima Bean,” to twangy toe-tappers like, “Find Me A Wife” and “Meet Me in the Van,” Grass Monkey Band is sure to keep you moving and wiggling with a unique sonic experience that is always appetite pleasing!
